Helen S- Mixed Emotions

I titled my image “Mixed Emotions”. I took this picture in late February/early March of this year. I worked with Emily and Emma, and Emily was the model. I took this with Mr. Rigsby's camera he keeps in the back studio. I blended 2 images together. I made the background image black and white and kept the top image in color. I wanted to make the background black and white to make the lights and tone of the other image stand out more. I think the blending from the colored image to the black and white image could have definitely been smoother but overall I am really proud of both images and the final result.

Kenn J- Starlight

The title for this image is Starlight. This was taken in the photography room and it was taken this month for out light painting assignment. This was taken with a digital camera and was then edited in photomatic. The thing i would wish the gaps in the picture where there isn’t much light

Sophia T - Vintage Romance

The title of this image is called “Vintage Romance” and was taken in a building in Homewood that has recently been gutted. This image is a part of my most recent series that is based on old-school love. I used the double exposure preset in Nik Collection on Photoshop to give the image a dazed effect - reflective of the feeling of falling head over heels for someone. I also made some simple adjustments to this image: decreasing the exposure, increasing the color saturation, and increasing the contrast. Overall, I am happy with how this image turned out. My beautiful model made it easy for me to have many great photo options to choose from. I’m open to suggestions on how to make this image better.

Paris C- Height

This image is named height because of the tallness of the animal in the photo. It was taken at the zoo last april on a school field trip. It was taken with my phone due to the fact I had forgotten my camera. It was edited by adding more contrast, some cropping, controlling the brightness, and makingthe colors more vibrant.

Alex B H - Pabu

I named this image “Pabu” because the ferret pictured is named Pabu. This was taken at Nikolaus’ house on Jan 24th 2024. I took this image with my Canon Rebel T3. I used photoshop and the camera raw filter to edit this photo.

Kay A- Talking to the Moon

The name of this picture is “Talking to the Moon” I took this picture on December 26, 2023, on a Trip to Atlanta with my iPhone 11, I edited by using the dodge filter to make the moon a little bit brighter while I also lowered the shadows for the rest of the picture so that it would be more focused on the moon, I think it could be better if I lowered the brightness of the building a little bit more.

Steven L- US Flag

This image is called “US Flag,” and I took it with my teacher’s camera at school. I applied an HDR filter and I edited the brightness, vibrance, and the contrast. It looks blurry because there are three pictures in this photo merged together. It’s pretty basic but I still like it. I’m open to any suggestions on how to edit it.

Vincent S - A Lone Ghoul's Breakbeats

This picture was taken with a Canon camera towards the end of February for the light painting assignment. I had the idea to have the subject hold a light in her hands and another group mate had the idea to pose her to look sort of heartbroken. None of the pictures really came out that well, seeing as the exposure wasn't long enough for much to even be seen, but I solved it using Photomax’s HDR function which brought all those individually lit photos together pretty well. While editing, I made a high saturation copy of the photo, and a black and white copy of the photo, layered the black and white version over the high saturation version, and used masking layers to make the only color in the photo be the highlights. To finish it, I used a drawing tablet and the brush tool to make the photo look more ghastly and fill in the empty space. The image reminded me of a song from my favorite band, so I threw a reference in the title. I don’t think there is much more I could have done with it so I’m pretty happy with how it came out.

Maci J- Spores

The title of this image is “Spores”. I took this photo with one of Mr. Rigbsy’s cameras (not sure what kind) and I also used a 10x macro lens. The subject of this photo is a group of leaves that I noticed had grown spores. I edited this photo by making minimal adjustments to highlights, contrast, and I increased the texture by a lot (without making it too grainy). I wish I could have gotten a lot closer to the spores and that the entire leaf was in focus. Something I do like though is the background because the blurred flowers give it a needed pop of color.

Emily K- Faces

This picture is titled “Faces” and it was taken in the studio at school with a Canon t7. It is composed of many different angles and facial expressions of my model. I combined them in their relatively accurate placement but slightly off so that you can still tell that it is a face. I also adjusted the contrast and brightness of every layer and made the entire photo black and white. I think it could’ve been better if I played around with the clarity and brightness a little more but overall, I am proud of this piece.

Nathan E- Arour

This is a photo my group and I made and took during our light painting activity.

Dori H- Mechanical Anglerfish

The title of this image is “Mechanical Anglerfish”. The fish was made with a collection of pieces of metals I've taken throughout the past two years. The main base image I used was a large piece of metal vent that I took in a bookstore and the light bulb was taken in an abandoned building in Bessemer. I first drew the base shape of the angler fish and used a clipping mask to lay the images overtop the fish shape. After making the fish, I added a glow from the lightbulb and drew dust particles that you would typically see in deep seawater. I do want to go back eventually and edit the lighting of the fish to make it look like the lightbulb is the only light source. I’d also like to add more of a contrast to the image because the dust particles look slightly flat in my opinion.

Brandon B- Rays

This image is titled “Rays” and was taken with my iPhone in the spring of 2021 on my way to school.  It was taken on a foggy morning of some houses on the hill.  I edited this by mirroring the house and tree on the right.  I then used the masking tool to retain an individual sun and background detail.  Additionally, I used curve and hue adjustments to present the particular lighting and color.  Finally, I used a combination of contrast filters and the skylight filter for a final touch.  If I spent more time on the masking I think the smaller details of the image would look much better, but overall I’m pretty content with how this one turned out.

Caroline M- High Point

This photo was taken January 15th at high point climbing center. I increased the contrast and decreased the brightness. I wasn’t a fan of the colors of the wall so I used color correction to change the colors. I wish it was a better quality photo.

Vincent S - Bubbly Memos

This is a composition of a whole bunch of images I had of my friend, some of which I took with my phone, and some with my Canon camera. I didn’t have many ideas of what to make before I started, but when I saw my old Circles Project next to the folder with all of her pictures, I kind of just made this. All I did was cut out the backgrounds of the original image, and used masking layers to make her look more ghostly and sort of natural in the water orbs. I think to make it better I could have put more effort in making the brightness across the individual images more consistent, and I think the background could be a little less flat.

Anthony S M-The Suit

I took this photo in January on a Saturday. I use one of my action figures and posed him. Then I used other different photo to overlay/ mage then i use the color purple to make it seem like the same color of his suit like in the comic after that i put the brightness to to show some of the stuff then i darken the photo a little bit and i like my results so i think it okay.

Sophia T - Chess

This image is from my most recent sustained investigation assignment. I took pictures of my beautiful friend, Dori sitting on both sides of a chess set. I wanted her to wear opposing outfits to represent human complexity and the fight to act one specific way in front of everybody. I then compiled the images of Dori sitting on either side of the chess board to create one cohesive image portraying someone playing chess against themself. I had to alter the lighting and contrast slightly because some images turned out lighter than others, and in order for it to look like one image the lightings have to match. I think that I would like this shot more if I smoothed out the background in Photoshop and added some more props so the set didn’t look so empty.

Wendy S- Swan

The title for my photo is “Swan” It was taken at the Birmingham Zoo. I took this photo In January when I went out with a couple of friends. This photo was taken with my iPhone i edited this photo by changing the brightness and adjusting some of the colors and shadows. It would be better if it weren’t blurry and the net wasn’t in the shot but overall I liked it.
