Jerusha K- Bluff Park Cabin

The picture was taken on October 9 2020 at Bluff Park cabin/barn. I took this picture with my Canon Rebel T7i. To edit this picture I cropped and made the picture more focused. I decreased the exposer a little and increased the saturation by touch so it would give it a little more color and added a little bit of highlight to bring out the sky. To make this picture better I would have erased the gazebo and fence in the background to make it look less busy. This was actually a really cool morning. That morning it was pouring down rain and we had to suddenly switch up venues to take the picture so we went to the barn to take the pictures and we had so much fun just taking pictures and hearing the rain.

KAMERON M- Lake

The title of this image is Lake because it was taken on a lake. This image was taken in Missouri on a little island in the middle of Lake St. Louis. It was taken using my Iphone and I edited it using photoshop. I made the saturation higher and adjusted the tone of the image. I think the image could be better if I had a more focused composition.

Eduardo M- The Boss

This picture was taken around 1 am in Montgomery. I went down there with a couple of friends to hangout and walk around the city. I took this picture when we were on quarantine so I uploaded an app from google store and edited it there. I think adding a couple curves but overall it looks awesome!

Jiya P- On My House Lawn

This was taken on my house lawn when we had our first assignment. I took this picture with my camera. To edit this picture I blended two pictures together. Also, I darken a little because it was very bright.

Evelyn C - Branch

The title of my image is Branch. It was taken on March 28 near a tennis court while my family and I were out for a run around our apartment neighborhood. I took the picture with just my phone. My main edits were changing the curves slightly, using the Nik filter Color Analog, the Dodge tool, and Viveza. I used the curves to emphasize the contrast a bit. The Nik filter to brighten the center, give it a glow, and provide some contrast in the sky. The viveza tool was mainly to increase the saturation of the center of the flowers and dilute some of the color and brightness of the surrounding background.

Sasha C- Waterfall

This picture was taken at Birmingham, Botanical Gardens. This picture was taken in the morning. This image was taken with my camera Nikon D3200. The way I edited this Picture is by changing the filter and playing around with vibrance and warmth tools. I feel this picture would be better if I changed the water to a more clear color or blue.

Kameron M - Moth

The title of the image I’ve selected is Moth, because I couldn’t think of another name. I took it in my backyard a week or 2 ago using my iPhone XR. I edited it by cutting out the moth using the select tool and putting a B/W filter on it before raising the saturation on the background and touching up certain parts with the blur tool. The image itself could be better had I taken the photo with my camera, there would be less noise and motion blur.

Julien F - Dying Flower

I call this image Dying Flower because the subject is a flower that has fallen off and onto the ground. I edited the image so the background will be desaturated so the flower can be the main focus. If I could redo this image I would make the flower more focused in the shot.

Mitchell C - Abandoned

The title of this image is “Abandoned”. I took it in downtown Birmingham where my dad works and for some reason, I really like this image. I like how bland it is; I like how it lacks contrast and vibrance; I like the empty space above the building; I like how abnormal it is in comparison to what is commonly considered a well-composed, nicely lit shot. I used a combination of Photoshop and Apple Photos when editing this image and  took it using my 85mm 1.8 and Canon 6D Canon camera body. If I were to change anything about this image, it would probably possibly remove some of the distracting elements at the bottom of the frame. Like the stop sign or pavement; I think I would just make them slightly darker when editing it. Thank you for the comments!

Jiya P- Christmas

The picture was taken in my bathroom during lsat December. I just darken a little that’s all I did. I didn’t edit as much because  I think it looks perfect as it is.

Jack J. - Women in the Army

My image is titled “Women in the Army.” This image was taken in the photography room with Mr. Rigsby's camera. I edited this by combining 6 different images of kids from my class and then adding a black and white filter. Finally I colorized it and went for an old photo of a woman joining the military aesthetic. The image could be better if I had worked on the toning more before I changed it to black and white.

Hayden M - Slippin

This image was taken downtown during the random rainfall a few days ago. This was taken with my Sony a7iii and Sigma 35mm Lens. I did an entire shoot with my friends and this shoot was initially supposed to be a sunny/bright style but of course it started to rain, but that didn’t stop us. I ended up turning the style into a moody fall vibe by obviously making the colors more moody and adding a small amount of warmth to the photo. I also added a radial gradient to the headlights to make them pop more. I really like this image honestly and the only thing I would change is the background, get rid of the building and have more trees. I also wish the colors in the trees popped more but if I tried to do anything about changing that it would make the image look fake, and I don't like that.

CLAY K- Painted Beach

The picture was taken last January at the Gulf. The picture was taken on a nikon D500. I changed the saturation and vibrance of the picture in order to make it have a warmer feeling, and then I applied a painted filter over it. The picture would  be better if I had spent more time on it.

Ainsley M- Subway Tiles

This image was taken last week at the beach with my Nikon d3500. We were walking around and found this little section of the street that was covered in these tiles, and we thought it was a super strange place to put something like this, but I called it Subway Tiles because of that. I edited it by increasing the contrast, decreasing the highlights, and adding a black and white filter. I messed around with the colors within the black and white filter so I was able to change the lightness in her hair and the background. I think it could have been shot better/positioned better, but because we were super rushed I thought it still turned out kinda cool!

Cayla M- Grind

The name of this image is Grind. It shows how hard he has worked in the game and throughout the season with just the sweat coming down his neck. It was taken with a canon T6 under the Friday football lights. I singled out his number to highlight him and what the number means to him. The resolution could be a little higher. But i love how it turned out and the message it gives to athletes and to people searching for the meaning or giving it their own meaning.

Evelyn C - Handle

The name of my image is Handle. It was taken with my Canon Rebel T6 in the studio. I changed it to black and white and then messed with the contrast and Viveza to brighten and darken certain areas. As well as making the hand holding the phone the center by making it more brighter than the background. I would have liked the photo more if I had focused more on the phone like the hand holding it. Besides that, I like how it turned out.

Bryson S - Good Puppy

This image took a good deal of work to edit, as it was shot through cloudy glass at the zoo. I took the picture on my own trip to the zoo following the field trip last year. I love the contrast of the colors on the subject and background, and love how the shallow depth of field captures the edges of the fur nicely. It's one of my favorite images I've taken, so I'm happy to put it on the photoblog.

Emaleigh S- Elephants in Love

The title of my image is Elephants in love because it is two elephants who appear to be hugging each other. It was taken at the zoo during our field trip last year. It was taken with my iPhone XS camera cause unfortunately by this time of the trip my card ran out of space. I edited it by using sharpness and adding a little more vibrance to the image as well as keeping the focus on the elephants.  Overall I think the image is good but could have been much better if taken with a better camera.

Katie H - Glitter

The title of this photo is “Glitter.” It was taken at a tennis court in March of this year. It was taken with a Nikon camera. I edited it by brightening the photos and adding the glitter background. It could be better if I added another element to the image. Overall I think it turned out pretty cool and Olivia is a model, that’s all.

Alana W- Coming of Age

The title of this image is Coming of Age and it was taken on October 28, 2020, in my home for the Hands and Feet assignment. It was taken with my Canon Rebel T6 camera using both my younger brother and my father’s hands. I edited the image by first editing all 9 photographs by adjusting brightness and contrast, exposure, making the images black and white, and cutting out each image one by one, and adding a white background. I then added them to a 9 picture photo collage and making the border black. I really like this image because of the theme of aging and I feel like it could have been better if I was able to get a smoother Cut on my brother’s and father’s hands.

Sasha C- The Red ird

This was taken at the Birmingham Zoo, it was taken in the morning with a Nikon D3200. I edited by changing the brightness and adding some filtering to make the bird stand out more.

MITCHELL C- Untitled

This image is unfortunately unnamed but I absolutely love it nonetheless. It was my cousin's Labrador Retriever and I took it with a Canon 6D camera and 80mm 1.8. I converted it into a black and white to add interest and impact and decided to have an extremely shallow depth of field for depth. Instead of having the focus point on his eyes, I thought having it on his nose was much more interesting. Also, having him fill the entire frame was extremely effective in the overall mood and tone. I honestly cannot think of anything that I would change; I’m sure that if I were to ask around, that answer would change, but from my own opinion, and only taking in consideration of what I think, I really like it just how it is!

Merit O- Ella

The name of this image is Ella. I took this picture when I was in Maryland for a wedding. I took the picture with my canon rebel T5. I didn’t really do anything to edit the picture because I like how it came out. It was around sunset or “golden hour” when I took it so I liked how it came out.

Jack J - The Empress

My image is titled “The Empress.” This image was taken at Cahaba River Park on October 24th with my friend Alivia. I took this with my Canon Rebel T3. I edited this by adjusting the saturation and then adding a Nik Collection filter. I was mainly shooting for a witchy aesthetic when taking this image.

Kameron M - Battle

The title of my selected image is battle, I named it that because the board wear shows the “battle” (as its called in the skate community) I go through to land a trick. I took this pic in my driveway about a week ago with my Canon. I edited it using the Nik collection and used quick selection and layer styling to add a stroke in different areas. I could have made this image better by spending more time on the layer styling and refining the stroke around the board.

Clay K- Mercury Ornament

This is a Picture of the ornament off of my grandma's old Mercury. The picture was taken at my grandmother’s house in one of the fields. The picture was taken with A nikon D500 the image was sharpened and cropped. I could have spent more time working on angels and editing.

Jerusha K- Piccolo

I call this picture Piccolo. I took this picture in the band room by a well-lit window area during class one week. I used a Canon EOS 6d to take the picture with. I edited this picture by increasing the brightness and decreasing the contrast a little bit to create more depth and I sharpened up the picture and increased the saturation so it would look so pale and put a black and white filter over. I really like how this picture turned out but a thing I would change is to make the hand and piccolo a little more focused.

Emaleigh S- Cotton Fields

This image was taken about two weeks ago in a random country town in Alabama. It was taken with my Grandmother’s Nikon studio camera. I edited it by adding some vignette and definition with some saturation and a little more light. This photo would be better if my hand didn’t look kinda weird. Overall I really like the picture though.

Cayla M- Off Guard

It was taken in 2015 its an edit so if you look closely you can see the bikes. His picture was taken in a studio. The bike picture was taken on an LG phone outside. I just made the bike picture black and white and blended, and lined it up to match perfectly. The bikes could be less blurry.

Katie H - Space

The title of my image is “Space”. It was taken at my house one night. It was taken with a Nikon camera. For editing, I started by taking a picture of the sky and overlaying it on the image of Harry. I erased it where his body was to make it more like a background and then made the image black and white. I drew the lines with a cartoon like marking and then added thinner colors on top. I faded the ones on his face then adjusted the colors to make him have more of a blue tint. It could be better if I added another element to the photo. I may do that in the future but as of right now, I think it looks pretty cool! I hoped to display the message that every single person, despite religion, race, political ideologies, etc, are all intertwined and should love equally. It was kind of difficult doing that but maybe by a little more editing, will make it better.

Bryson S - Valley of Clouds

I took this image on a beach trip last year, it was the most beautiful cloud formation I had ever seen, happened during sunset, and had such vibrant colors that I had to take a picture. The image itself was captured with my phone’s forward facing camera, and I edited by slightly enhancing the saturation. The image doesn’t have a real focus, it’s kinda just pretty without reason. That kind of baseless beauty is needed in a world so literal.

Ainsley M- Glitter

This image was taken last weekend with my Nikon d3500 at my house. I used a 50mm lens, and this is one of the first times I’ve gotten to use it since I got it a couple of weeks ago. We used natural light that was coming in on the right side of the image, and I think that really helped with the detail you can see in his eye. I started off editing it by cleaning up some of the glitter on his face, and then went in with the sharpen tool and used it to bring out a little more detail in his eyes and the glitter in the highlighted areas. After adding a black and white filter I adjusted the lighting, and then made sure there was enough contrast in the photo. I feel like certain aspects of the image could be better, but honestly, I am very happy with how it turned out!

Evelyn C - Savvy Sky

The name of my image is Savvy Sky. My pictures consisted of a sunset I took outside in my neighborhood and a branch of leaves and flowers from Aldridge Gardens. All these pictures were taken with my Canon Rebel T6. This picture has a lot of manipulation. I mainly used the brush tool with various layers along with the smudge tools in order to enhance the colors of the plants that I used after manipulating them with the brightness, contrast, and vibrance. I believe it could have been better if I had a bit more color on the bottom like some hue of a color. But besides that I really like how this came out because it’s something that I hadn’t done before.

Hayden M - Sunset Supra

I called this image “Sunset Supra” because it was taken at sunset of a Supra on the highway. This was taken somewhere on 459 on the way to a car meet last weekend. It was taken with my Sony a7iii with the Sigma 35mm lens. I did a bunch of editing but the main differences are I made the image l a little warmer and added the more intense sunflare. Honestly this is one of my favorite images I've done in terms of editing but I wish I got the whole wheel in frame.

*** Please Give Feedback! ***

Alana W- 4018-1

The title of this image is 4018-1 and I named it this because of the numbers showing on the sign found on the railroad track. It was taken on October 26, 2020, at the Ross Bridge Historical Park. It was taken with my iPhone 11 and I dited by adding a bit of contrast, making the image black and white, and adjusting the brightness. I feel like this image could’ve been better if the top wasn’t cut off.

Clay K- Last February

The picture was taken at the beach last february and edited over the summer. The photos are from a nikon d500. I overlaid and applied a mask to make it overlap in the pattern of the old polaroid. The picture could have been if I had done a little bit more of a planning time.

Merit O- Sunset

The name of this image is sunset. I took this picture September 12 when I was up in Maryland for a wedding. I took it with my canon rebel T5. The only thing I did to edit it was I made the shadows a little darker to make the sky and sunset more clear. I like the picture how it is so I don’t know what I would do to make it better.

Cayla M- We Can't Breath

We can't breath is the name of this image. It was taken months ago in my room. It was originally a video which I screenshotted. Drew over it and made it into a statement for the BLM movement. Using the words from George Floyd and every shade of our color. To show that no matter what, we stand together. Fight together and die together. It could be a little better with the symmetry and the angles possibly. But I still believe it holds a very powerful statement.

Hannah R- Son of a Family Friend

I took this image at the Botanical Gardens a few months back. The boy in the photo is the son of a family friend. It was taken with a NikonD3500. I edited it by adding a filter and adjusting the lighting. I didn’t do much else to edit it. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

Mitchell C- Helicopter

I took this image last year at my dad’s workplace. Thankfully, the day I took this, it was slow, so I was able to take this picture of the aircraft. I edited this image slightly in the Apple Photos application before moving it into photoshop. I adjusted the hues of red, darkened and deepened the blacks, and I made the bright colors brighter and I really liked how it turned out. If I were to change anything to make it better, I would like to go back to the time when I was photographing and stand further back so I could get the entire aircraft in frame, but other than that, I am fairly happy with how the image turned out.

Alana W- Site

The title of this image is Site and it was taken last year and it was taken in my home. It was taken with my Canon Rebel T6, and I edited this image for the site image project. I edited it by changing the brightness, color, and contrast. I also added exposure, vibrance, and specialized text with online fonts from the adobe photoshop website. This image could have been improved if I was able to find a better font for the photo.

Emaleigh S- A Baby’s Grave

The title of my image is A Baby’s Grave. It was taken at an old graveyard in Bluff Park last week. I took this image with my phone while using another phone's flashlight for lighting. I edited it by adding a little saturation and definition to the grave and the leaves and I also straightened the image up as well. The photo would be better if the lighting was not so bright on the top of the grave. Other than that, this baby’s grave from the 1800’s made a pretty good image subject.

Jack J - Faces

My image is “Faces” and it is a combination of a picture taken last November at Railroad Park and a picture taken in August at Aldridge Gardens. Both images were taken with my Canon Rebel T3. I edited the image by cropping on my friend Bree’s eye and posterizing and adding a blue tone then duplicating the image many times. Then I cropped the image of Jilian and made it B/W then transferred her over to the images of Bree and drew an outline of Jilians face and duplicated it 3 times. I think it is as good as I could have done especially since I was exploring photoshop while editing.

Sasha C- Nurse Mariana

Nurse Mariana, this picture was taken at school, it was taken with Nikon 3200, I changed the filter and the brightest. I think this picture would look better if I would have taken it next to a desk or a front desk so it looks more like she is in a hospital.

David J- 4 Different Flowers

This photo is actually multiple put together, there are pictures of 4 different flowers all double exposed on top of a picture of the checkerboard on my vans. I took it at the beach with my phone, and completely edited it with snapseed, also on my phone. I could probably do a few touch ups with sharpness and other small things in photoshop.

Julien F- The Redwoods

The Redwoods is an image I took over this past summer. I went on a trip to California with my sister and grandmother and visited the park while over there. I wanted to truly capture the height of the trees along with the flourishing greens when taking this shot. My camera had died on my while on the hike so I used my iPhone to take this shot. I didn’t edit the picture at all and if I could redo this picture I would use my camera instead just to get a clearer shot to catch more details along with editing the contrast a little bit.

Katie H - Don't See Color

The title of his image is “don’t see color”. This was taken by self timer at my house on Sunday. It was taken with my Nikon camera. I edited it by darkening the background and brightening the face, adding color to the face and body, and many other techniques to make it the way it is. I think it could be better if I darkened the background a bit more. If you get anything out of this image though, it is that you should not judge anyone on the basis of color. In a time where the country is divided, it is a reminder that we are all human. Do not let the oppressor fool you. Stick to your morals and overall, just be a kind person.

Cameron Y - Locomotion

This photo is titled Locomotion.  I was honestly surprised how well the motion was captured in this one, I thought it was gonna be really blurry since the train was moving.  I took this photo in Helena on some train tracks while exploring for good photoshoot areas.  I edited the lighting and colors a bit by making the image more saturated, have brighter highlights and have more defined shadows.  This image was a lot of fun to take as well because of the light thrill you get from standing right beside a speeding train.  Definitely a good image to start off my year.

Bryson S- Bryson S - Lejon

This image was taken for the animal assignment last year. I missed the field trip and went with my dad, it was the last time I left the house once quarantine hit. This photo is interesting to me, as I took it through incredibly dirty, cloudy glass. The camera had a shallow enough depth of field, however, that it just added some exposure and nothing else. I didn’t edit much, I’m proud of how it came out.

Hayden M - Sunset Supra

The title of this image is called “Sunset Supra”. I named it this because it’s a picture of my friend's car taken at sunset in downtown Birmingham. It was taken with the Sony a7iii with a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens. All I did to edit it was throw the image into lightroom and play around with the settings until I liked it. I turned up the exposure a bit cause the original photo was dark cause I exposed it for the sunset, changed basically every other setting and made the image warmer in color. Honestly this is one of my favorite images so I wouldn't change much about it other than exposing the back of the car a bit more so it’s not so black. But yeah, car photos are my thing, probably not gonna see anything else lol.
