Carson R - Endangered

This image is entitled “Endangered”. It was taken at the New Orleans Zoo the weekend before Spring Break with a Nikon d3400. I edited this image by increasing the contrast of the elephant and brightening it up a little bit. I then painted the background black. I used the dodge and burn tool to mess with the details. I also had to remove lines of wire as the enclosure was in the way which took a very long time. I then moved the image to Lightroom in order to increase the clarity of the animal. I don’t know of any way this image could be better.

Dalton C. - Sloss

The title of this image is “Sloss”. It was taken over winter at Sloss furnaces. It was taken with my Canon Rebel T1I, I edited it by changing the saturation and sharpness then turning it to black and white. I think it could be better if I took it at a little better angle.

Charis H- Posture

I took this picture a few weeks ago at Briarwood in my sister’s ballet studio. It was taken at 9:00 am when the sun was still not fully at its peak, so the lighting was perfectly balances and was able to cast perfect lighting and shadows. This picture was taken with a Canon Rebel XSi. I went simple with editing and increased the contrast and used the doge tool to highlight some areas.

Emily R- View from the Plane

I took this picture with my Canon, on the plane to New York. This was I think in New Jersey. All I did to edit this was bump up the color, saturation, tone, contrast, and sharpness. It could be better if it was more in focus and had more of the salt deposits, rather than the trees.

Jahred T - Plant Spine

I took this picture around this time last year, I used Photomatix 6 toed the picture I stacked the picture twice onto it self I used the Enhanced 2 setting on it to give it the texture it has. I then took it to photoshop and used toy camera 7 to give it the zoomed and darker texture.

Magali V- Warmth

The title of the image is “Warmth” because of the feeling that I felt, the lighting and the pinecone reminded me of sunshine and the time of the year when summer starts to cool off into autumn. This picture was taken in the studio with a Cannon Rebel. I edited this picture by darkening the background and by enhancing the colors. I feel that this picture could be beer if it was centered differently.

Lauren B- Chicago Sky Deck

This picture is called Chicago Sky Deck because the band went to Chicago this March and I took my Canon ti6 with me to capture some cool architecture. The is an HDR photo that I edited using Photomatix Pro and put a cool filter on it. I also turned up the color and saturation some and cleaned up a few things in the background. I really like this picture but I think if it was not foggy and the picture was taken at a little better angle it could be improved.

Olivia H. - Pretty Bird

I took this picture at the National Zoo in Washington DC over spring break. I took it with my Canon T6 . To edit I did very simple things, I darkened the image and upped the contrast. I sharpened it and then I just selected the bird and made him more vibrant. I really like the angle I took this picture at and I really like how it came out.

Zach B- Dream Far Away

No statement provided.

Jacob T- Beach House Pano

I called this beach house panorama and it was taken on dauphin island.  It was taken with my Canon Rebel T6 and is made up of 53 pictures. I edited it by using the Niks Collection in Color Efex pro 4. I really like how there is so much detail that shows up but because of that the sky is a little too grainy. I also think that the sunlight that hits the blue building could have been extended a little more to look more natural.

Hannah J- Living in A Fish Bowl

This picture is named Living in a Fish Bowl. It was taken in my front yard and at the Georgia Aquarium during our marine science field trip. It was taken on my Canon PowerShot, and edited with different filters and colors. The fish could be more precisely cut out, but overall I like how it turned out.

Mollie E- "Highway"

This image is entitled “Highway” and it was taken on the Alford Avenue exit in Bluff Park. I took this with my Nikon d3400 camera at around 8 at night with a tripod and a very slow shutter speed. I edited it in Photoshop by bumping up the contrast a little bit and changing the levels and curves. I also used the Analog Efex filter from the Nik Collection and I think it gave it a really nice effect. I wish I could have avoided the motion caused by the cars passing on the bridge, but I don’t think there was much I could to to stop that.

Annalisa P- Astro world

The name of my image is called Astro World and it was taken with my Go Pro hero 4. It has a night setting that was easier to get quality astrophotography images than it was on my Canon or Nikon. I set the shutter speed for 30 seconds, and edited it in photoshop. I brought out the vibrance on the horizon and brightness of the stars so its easier to see. We had to drive out of the city in Sedona, Arizona for this image. The farther away from the city lights you are, the easier it is to see the stars.

Macy M - Obstruct

The title of this image is “Obstruct”. It was taken in the studio on March 21st. I took it with my Nikon D3400. I added a lot of definition to the hair, turned it black and white, added a yellow and brown ombre filter, and added a fade filter at the top. I definitely wish the photo was less grainy. I still want the hair to stand out more. I also wish there was better contrast.

Heath M- Salty

This picture is titled “Salty.” I took this picture when I went to Peru over the summer and I really enjoy it. I took this with my Canon EOS 80D somewhere around midday. I made the colors pop out with vibrance and contrast and cropped it. Overall, I feel like it turned out pretty well.

Emily R- NY Trip

This picture is called NY Trip. This was taken over the summer midday, during June or July. This was taken with my Cannon. I did a lot to this one to make it abstract. I obviously changed the hues and played with the the contrast. I turned the sharpen up a lot and make the could very defined. I could be a little more clear, but overall I am happy with the result.

Braxton S.- Collage

The title of my image is “Collage”. The picture of the rocks were taken at Blackridge. I made that picture black and white and tried to darken it enough to where it was almost a silhouette. The other picture I had was a railroad crossing sign. I didn’t even mean to make the collage my computer just messed up and Emily thought it was cool. I think it could be better if I put any actual effort into it.

Carson R - Love Birds

This image is titled “Love Birds” as the flamingos seem to be making a heart with their heads. It was taken over spring break at the Memphis Zoo with a Nikon d3400. I edited this first in photoshop, increasing the contrast and using the dodge and burn tool in some areas and adjusting the color balance, then I used Lightroom in order to increase the clarity a bit. This was a very lucky shot and I would not have gotten it except my dad pointed it out as I was walking away from the exhibit.

Dalton C- Wholesale Beverages

The title of this image is “Wholesale Beverages”, I took in downtown Bessemer at the end of summer last year. I took it with my Canon Rebel T1I. I edited it by increasing the contrast and increasing decreasing the brightness. I think if I would have taken it at a little bit shallower angle then it would look a little better, but overall I like this picture.

Olivia N- Storm

The image is called Storm and was taken in the courtyard on February 7,2019. The image was edited in Photoshop and was turned into sepia toned photo. I increased the contrast in various places in the photo like the sky and buildings for the details to be seen better. The image could have been better if the background was not as dark and grainy in certain areas and was lighter then shown in the picture.

Michelle A- Railroad

The is from my current assignment black and white. I took this picture at a railroad I went to with some friends somewhere in Hoover. I remember this day was cold so we didn’t stay long. I took this with my phone cause I thought the view was pretty nice. I like how it turned out dark like it tells a story or something.

Magali V - Luminescence

This photograph is called “Luminescence” and it was taken in the studio with light and exposure manipulation. The image was taken for my lighting project and I used Canon Rebel T6. For editing, I used the Nick collection to blur some of the light and adjusted the exposer and the brightness. I feel like this picture could be better if it was taken form a different angle.

Lauren B- Wonder Woman's Quest

This picture is called Wonder Woman’s Quest and it’s actually a composite of several pictures. I took a picture of my rug with a piece of cardboard behind it as the background and manipulated that with selective color until I got the purple and green that I liked. Then I added the big jewel on the left side of the photo which was originally a part of my tiara that fell out. I changed that color with the paint tool and I wanted to have it match Wonder Woman so I made it red. Then I added my pop figure of Wonder Woman into the photo. I didn’t do a whole lot to her since she is the subject. I cleaned up a few parts of the picture and it was done. I took all the pictures with my Canon Ti6 on the floor of my room.

Danielle M - Swan

This picture is simply titled “Swan”. I took the image at the Birmingham Zoo either on my own time or when we took the field trip. I slapped a Nik Filter on it and then sharpened the image a good amount in order to emphasize more detail in the image. It could be better if it was lighter, but unfortunately it was originally quite grainy so I couldn’t do much without taking away from the quality.

Carson R - Breath of a Lion

This image is entitled “Breath of a Lion”. It was taken at the Birmingham Zoo last weekend with a Nikon d3400. I edited this image in photoshop by increasing the contrast of the lion. I used the dodge and burn tool to adjust parts of his face. I then used the brush tool to paint the background black. I also used the burn tool to make the edge where his face meets black seem more natural. I used the Pixelmator app on the Mac to add light leaks until I got the look I was going for. I think this image could be better if the chin of the lion looked a little more blended. This image was inspired by the story “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” and kind of reminds me of the part when Aslan was killed by the witch and then brought back to life.
