Helen S- No Strings Attached

I titled this image “No Strings Attached”. I took this picture in my brother's room about 3 weeks ago. I took this picture with my Sony A6500 with a portrait lens. I edited the hand a bit because my brother had poison ivy so I smoothed the skin some. I also used the burn tool to add a bit more definition. I think the way it could have been better is if the angles of the string were different and if the background curtain was a bit more smooth. Also I think that if the focus was more on the hand and not the stings it would have looked better. Overall I’m proud of this image.

Chai C- The Sun

The title of this image is The Sun because that’s exactly what this is a photograph of. The photo was taken on Labor Day weekend in Dadeville, Alabama. The sky was fairly cloudy, but the sun could be seen shining through a small hole in the clouds. The photo was taken with a Canon camera and a UV filter lens to block out some of the light. I edited the image to make the Sun a bit more pronounced, as the unedited image was a lot less clear. I also made the image a lot darker to really highlight the contrast between the Sun and the rest of the sky. This effect does add a lot of negative space to the image, which I don’t really like.

Kenn J- Medusa Dog

The title is Medusa Dog. This was taken in the backyard of my house and it was taken in the morning when the sun was rising. This was taken with my iphone. I just adjusted the hue and saturation with each color separately then I used AI Generation to fill the bottom to finish the foot of the statue to then go in and edit more. I really like the color and contrast of the different colors there is nothing I would personally change to it.

Paris C- Freeway

I named this image Freeway because obviously of where and what it was taken. I really like this photo and I really think I did a good job editing it.

Nathan E- Hop Hop

I took this when I went on a walk with my class in eco. I zoomed in, stepped back, and snapped the pic you see with a NIK Collection filter on it.

Emma B- Cookout Emily

This image was taken behind the school where the sculpture room is and was taken on September 27 2023. This photo was taken with my iPhone 11 Pro Max with a fisheye lens attached on the camera. I edited this image with a filter from the app PREQUEL the adjusted the brightness and saturation. It could be better if there was more black around the circle area to make it a perfect circle. But I love this image and Emily was an amazing model.

Alex B H - Trust Flowing Water

I amend this image “Trust Flowing Water” because often you trust moving water because it is seen as safer. I took this image at a creek while going to take photos of my friend. It was taken on October 9th 2023. I took this image with my iPhone 13, I used the camera raw filter to edit the image. I also mildly cropped the image. I wish i would have had space on my good camera to take a photo on the better quality.

Dori H- Jellyfish Dreams

The title of this image is Jellyfish Dreams. It is a composite photo with two separate images one being the jellyfish and the other being the subject who’s lying down. I took the jellyfish photo at the Georgia Aquarium and the other photo I took in the studio. I wanted this image to look like a girl was dreaming of jellyfish and the main goal was to make it look somewhat dreamy and magical. To edit this photo, I adjusted the exposure and brought up the highlights. I then added all the jellyfish and color-corrected them to be all the same color. After that, I added the glow around the jellyfish and on the subject. I think this image would be better if there wasn't so much empty space around the jellyfish. I was hoping that later on I could go back and add some light rays, like the ones that you would typically see underwater. Although I like the image being more on the darker side so it can add more contrast and highlight the glow of the jellyfish, the photo might be a little too dim. Overall this was a really fun image to edit and I can’t wait to do more composites in the future.

Brandon B- Dual Doors

This photo is titled “Dual Doors” due to the two doors depicted in the image. Which is also representing two different choices.  This was taken on November 17th, 2022 on a field trip.  This was a building in an alley way which I mirrored to create the dual effect.  It was taken with my iPhone 13 Pro.  I edited this by changing the hue and saturation, using the mask brush to create the dual effect, and used a rain overlay for a particles effect at the top.  Some smaller masking was done in the image to create extra detail.  This could be better if I spent more time being precise on the masking.

Steven L - Generations

I took this photo with a Canon EOS Rebel, on September 30, 2023. It’s a photo of my grandma’s and my little cousin’s hands. I edited by increasing the brightness and the vibrance of the picture, I cropped it a little, and also I applied a filter to show as many details as possible in my hands. I think It looks good, but I still think it could look better If I edited a little more.

Emily K- Flag

This image is called “Flag” because that is what it is and it was taken at my lake house on October 7, 2023 with my Canon t7. The only editing I did was deepening the contrast and colors. I think it could be better if I was able to capture the flag when it was more straightened out because although currently it shows movement, I feel like it would be cool if it was frozen in air. I like the lighting a lot and overall, it was fun to take this picture.

Kay A- Theater

The title of this image is Theater this was taken on September 22, 2023, in The Hoover High School Theater with my Cannon EOS Revel what I did to edit it was I used the Nix collections in order to make it more focused, and I also lower the brightness so it would focus more on the actors faces. It could have been better if it wasn’t as cropped because it looks a little crowded.

Sophia T - Mermaid

The title of this image is “Mermaid.” I created the outfit my model is wearing, and did a photoshoot with her in it to submit for my fashion portfolio for college applications. I was quite happy with how the lighting looked in the unedited version, so I did very minimal edits, focusing more on increasing the sharpness and color contrast. The only thing I would change is making her look less red. Overall, I am very happy with this image.

Jade S- Downtown Atlanta

The name of this photo is “Downtown Atlanta”. It was taken last Saturday in Atlanta, GA. It was taken with an iPhone 11 Pro Max and I edited it with Photos and Photoshop. I started by cropping the front of the car out and added some saturation and filters to make it “pop”. I wish I could have gotten a wider shot, but due to where I was, I wasn’t able to.

Evan S- OMORI

This image is called “OMORI”, it was taken at the Galleria parking deck a few weeks ago. I took it with my Nikon 3000. I upped the contrast, cropped the sky, lowered the barrier, upped the blue, removed shadows, added new shadows, etc. I think I could have made the image less bland.

Kenn J- Loving Heart

The image name is Loving Heart. This was taken this year for a hands and feet assignment. I took it with a Canon digital camera borrowed from Mr. Rigsby. I did multple edits witht the Nik Collection then I adjusted the hue and saturation, the black point and brightness was elevated as well. I really like it how it is now. I dont think there are any personal changes I would make.

Aidan P- Depressed

This image was taken downtown at Railroad Park for the story illustration assignment. I got my Dad to pose in front of the lights and to wear a black hoodie. I wanted him to look depressed to match the story I was using. I changed the original lights from green to blue and cleared up the sky. I also sharpened the towers with the red lights in the background and tried to clear up the buildings some more. In the end parts of it are still not clear because of the focus but I wanted to make sure it was focused on my Dad for the theme of the image.

Wendy S- Mon Laferte

The title of this image is “Mon Laferte” It was taken in the studio a couple of weeks ago and it was take with my iphone. I edited it by making her skin appear a bi whiter to recreate the Mon Laferte Album cover, i also adjusted the lighting and exposure as well as the color. This photo was used for The Illustration assignment but this is more of the original photo.

Michelle R- Bird

I titled this image bird. It was taken last Saturday when I went to the zoo. I took it with my phone. I edited its brightness and hue. It can't make it any better I believe. I was with my siblings and we were feeding the animals.

Mia N - Orange

I took this picture during the sunset in Bluff Park a few days ago. I edited it by messing with the lighting and the orange hues and then cropping. I definitely think the picture coud be clearer.

Marcie M- Before I Die I Want

I named this image “Before I Die I Want” because that is what the prompt was on the wall and people could write their responses. It was taken with my iPhone XR in downtown Birmingham near Railroad Park about a month ago. I adjusted the brightness and contrast and toned down the colors a bit and I also added a noise filter to give it a grainy effect. I wish I could’ve gotten the whole sentence of “Before I die I want to…” but I didn’t want it to be completely centered. Out of all the answers on the wall the only one I remember is “Before I die I want to move to Italy,” which stood out to me because something like that is unfortunately difficult to achieve in America, but whoever this was I too hope they can move to Italy before they die.

Anthony SM- Spiderman

I took this photo during August around 8:00 pm. I posed my Spiderman action figure many times and I stayed with this for now, maybe more in future but I feel like I could change it.

Caroline M- The Brights Zoo

The title of this image is The Brights Zoo. It was taken in the zoo that has the very rare spotless giraffe in Tennessee and I took it September 23rd. I took this photo with my Nikon D3300. When I took this picture it was dull and had a lot of overexposed spots. I made the image more vibrant and I used the clone tool to try to cover the overexposed spots. I really like this image because the background looks like a painting and the bird's colors are breathtaking. I do wish I made the background a little less vibrant so the bird’s colors would pop but other than that I really like this picture.

Vincent S- Lockrds

I took this photo at my church with my Canon camera. It wasn’t supposed to look like this at first but the NIK Collection glitched and didn't load in some huge chunks and I thought it looked silly so I saved it before it finished loading. It is literally perfect.

Helen S- Sherlock.

I titled my image “Sherlock” because that is the name of my dog. I took this picture at my house over the summer. I took this picture on my Sony A6500 with a portrait lens. I edited this picture by brightening the image and making the colors a bit more pigmented. I think that the composition could have been better and the angle as well. Overall I really like this image.

Chai C- Repeat

The title of this image is Repeat, and it was taken with a Canon camera in mid-September. The image was taken in a stairwell in a parking deck. The image was edited with Photoshop, with emphasis on deepening the shadows and bringing out the color of the lights and windows. This image could’ve included a more central subject, however.

Alex B H - Side Of Love

I named this “Side Of Love” It was taken September 24, 2023 at 5:30pm. I took this image while at a gas station with my Canon EOS Rebel T3. I used the Camera Raw Filter and Cropped the image slightly. If i held the camera more steady this would have been a better image.

Emma B- Always Forever

I took this photo in downtown Birmingham on September 8th, 2023. I took this image using my iPhone 11 Pro Max on a tripod with a handheld Bluetooth clicker. I edited this image by decreasing the exposure and brilliance and enhancing the highlights and contrast. I wish the quality could be better, but I think it adds character to the photo. This photo is of me and my best friend Ava Lee. :)

Steven L - Rise

I called this image “Rise,” and it was taken at the studio and with one of Mr. Rigsby’s cameras. I edited by increasing the brightness and the brightness along with decreasing the contrast of both of those. I also used a filter to make it look all blue. I think it could be better if I put a different filter or even make it brighter, but I think it looks alright anyways.

Maci J- At Sloss Furnace

I took this in April at Sloss Furnace with my Canon Camera. I edited this image by using the Camera Raw filter and making the details more prominent. Then I tried to make the overall image darker and make the structure itself more saturated. Originally there were people in the photo, but I edited them out. It doesn't look very realistic though. The final edit isn’t really what I wanted it to look like. I wish I could’ve made everything leading up to the middle darker so people’s eyes would follow it even more. You can also see where I used the burn

Nikolaus Hines- Oddities

I took this image at Birmingham Oddities earlier this year using my IPhone 13. To edit this, I darkened the background, added the slide information, and used the Analog filter from the Nik collection on it. I think this photo could’ve been better if I had taken this with the intent of editing it.

Dylan T- Grip Boost

This one is called “Grip Boost”. I call it that because it's a lil football jokey joke. I took it in the courtyard a few days ago. I took it with a Canon Rebel t6. All I did was add a background and change the lighting a bit. Im kinda satisfied with how it turned out I can't think of what I could have done to make it better but I'm open to suggestions.

Dori Hh - Alice In Wonderland

I chose Alice in Wonderland as my story to illustrate in the story illustration assignment. I chose this story because Alice In Wonderland was my favorite story growing up, in fact it still is. I chose to recreate the rabbit hole scene because it allows me to incorporate more objects  and design into the image.

The first step I took when creating this image is by drawing the background. I drew a curved checkered floor along with the blue rabbit hole pit. I tried to make it animated and in motion but it was extremely difficult. Then I slowly added the objects along with their shadows. The most difficult object to add was the tea pot and tea cups because I had to draw the spilling tea. I also added the rabbit and his stop watch from stock photos.

I then added the title and brightened up and added stroke lines to make it pop more. Lastly I added the main subject herself.

I really enjoyed this assignment, it allowed me to really have fun with the drawing brush and simple design. I was disappointed with how my main image turned out but I really think the design around her makes up for it. I hope I get to have just as much with my AP portfolio.

Paris C- Lake Side

The title of this image is Lake Side. It was taken on a cruise during the summer. It was taken with my phone. I used a lot of contrast and brightening but also darkening to make the textures more visible and the colors more vibrant.
