Jade S- Autumn Blues

The title of this image is “Autumn Blues”. I took this photo with an Iphone 11 Pro Max in my backyard November 8th. I edited it with the photos app and all i really did was bring up the brightness and add some saturation and the contrast. It would have been better if I wasn’t rushing and I could have gotten a straighter shot of it. I also should have made sure that none of thr trees were getting cut off, but overall I think it's an “okay” image.

Evan S- T.V.

This Image is called T.V. It was taken at railroad park about a week ago. It was taken with a Nikon d3000 and was edited with Camera Raw, Nik analog fx and Nik Color fx.I think the original image was a bit blurry, but I added grain anyways so I don't mind.

Aidan P- Abandoned

This image was part of series two and simply called Abandoned. It was taken late October in downtown Birmingham of the closed F.D. McArthur Elementary school. I used my Canon Rebel T7 for the image and started th editing with a filter from the Nik Collection. The filter started the scary look but I changed up thefilter up some before going to the camera raw filter to make some other changes to clear it up and maake it darkerbut still clear. This was during a sunny day and when I made it dark, the clouds became dark and I wish those were a little more detailed but I had a good time takingand workingon the image.

Wendy S-- Flowers

My picture is titled “Flowers” It was taken in the summer at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. This picture was taken with my iPhone. I edited it by changing the brightness of the image and brightening the color of the flowers.

Marcie M - Liberty

I named this image “Liberty” because it was taken at a military training site called Camp Liberty. It was taken in October with my iPhone XR. The filter I added gives it a slightly more dated look to give a more of a timely feeling. I feel like the grass is too distracting, but overall this is my favorite image I’ve taken.

Caroline M- Springville Lake

The title of this image is Springville Lake. It was taken at Camp Springville on November 11th. I took it with my Nikon D3300. This is a composite photo I made. The background photo is a picture of the zipline over  the lake and the second photo was of one of the people in my group about to hit the break on the zipline. I masked the second image and started blending it with the background. I really liked the beautiful fall leaves in the background so I decided to keep them somewhere in the picture. There was a green pole I didn't love so I decided to put them where the pole was. I brightened the photos and removed little things and cloned more leaves on  the trees in the background to make it look more vibrant and full. Overall I'm pretty happy with this image.

Anthony SM- Car Meet

I took this photo back on Oct 14 while going to the car meet with my friend at the Summit. There were a lot of cool cars that I took with my camera and this photo is a nissan gtr 5 and i like the car honestly and yeah that all.

Maci J- Duck Face Card

The title of this image is “Duck Face Card”. It doesn't mean anything I just thought it was funny. I took the photo of the duck with my Canon camera by the pond behind the library. I made the duck its own layer so I could make normal adjustments to brightness, highlights, etc. I also used the dodge tool to brighten up the lighter parts of the ducks feathers. Then I muted the background so it stood out even more. The worst part of the image is definitely where you can see the harsh lines from where the duck was selected. Other than that I do really like the colors and composition of the image and I’m going to try and use it in my third investigation.

Paris C- View

I named this image view obviously because of the amazing view. This was taken on a trip in the summer to the Bahamas. It was taken with my phone and instead of letting it be colorful and dull I decided to make this image black and white It could be better but I like it the way it is.

Helen S- Sweet Sasha Bear

I titled this image “Sweet Sasha Bear” I took this picture in my living room about a year ago. I used my Sony A6500. I used the burn tool and gave the image more color. This photo could definitely be better. I think if it were sharper and more detailed it would have been a better picture. I know this picture isn't the best but I chose it because she recently passed and I wanted to post a picture of her to remember her. She was an amazing and sweet dog and she will be dearly missed. 11/8/23

Dori H - Lost Fairy

This image is called Lost Fairy, It is a composite image with only two images. The base image is a macro shot of a bonsai tree which I lowered the lighting of. The second photo is of my friend posing down as if she’s reaching for something. After combining the two photos and fixing the lighting, I added a glowing light coming from the tiny plant on the ground. I made sure to add the glow on my friend’s face and hand. I then added an overlay on the image to make the entire picture cohesive. I do wish my friend’s hair didn’t look muted but I had to lower the highlights in her hair to match the lighting of the environment.
Both of these pictures were taken in August this year. I took the picture of the bonsai tree at Aldridge Gardens where they had a wide selection of beautiful bonsai trees and the second image, was taken at Red Mountain Park.
I really liked how this image turned out and I hope I can make more like it in the future!

Steven L- Scent

I called this image “Scent” because the plant had a scent that I liked. I took it with my phone at my grandma’s place. I edited by increasing the brightness and the brightness while decreasing the contrast for both, and then I just applied a filter to make it look like that. I didn't have much time to work on this image so I’m open to any suggestions to edit it.

Alex B H - Halloween Evening

I named this image, Halloween Evening. I took this photo outside of my house and it was on October 31, 2023. I took the photo with my Iphone 13 and used the Camera Raw filter and object removal for things in the background that were not flattering. I think if I used my good camera it would look much better.

Kenn J- Shapes and Pastels

The title of this image is Shapes and Pastels. This was taken this month in my backyard. This was taken with my phone. I liquified the images and for most I also adjusted the hue and saturation to bring in more color and then shaped them individually on a gradient and designed the background layer of lines to make more of a contrast between the circles. I think the image could be better with more variety of circles and images used and more diverse amount of editing. I liked this image personally because it was something fun to make and enjoy and less viewed like an assignment.

Kay A- I Hate the Way I Don't Hate You

The name of this image is I Hate the Way I Don't Hate You, this picture was taken November 3, 2023, in the photography studio, It was taken with a Canon Rebel EOS, and what I did to edit it was I used the Nix collection sharpener output filter and I also cropped the image, I lastly used the dodge tool to brighten up the crystals a bit more, I think it could have been better if used different lighting.

Michelle R- Bulbs

I titled this photo bulbs. It was taken in my room on 12th November. It was taken with my camera. I duplicated the circles and changed the color of the gel. The brightness was increased and the background was darkened. I believe it could have looked better if it had looked like glass and given some circles more room.

Vincent S- But Why It Uue??

This is a picture I took of a vase filled with water orbeez which become completely transparent when submerged. Thay were used to make the flowers inside look like they were floating midair. To edit, I combined layers of different edits of color changing, distortion, and higher clarity and lower texture using Photoshop's Raw Camera Filter. It kind of feels like a cheap shot given that flowers and things of the like aren’t really my thing when it comes to photography and flower pictures feel pretty cheap to me in general but I figured a change of pace wouldn’t hurt too bad. It hurt really bad :(

Nikolaus H- Fins

The name of this photo is ‘Fins’. It captures a radiator from the 1950’s and the bent cooling fins of it. I edited this photo by increasing contrast, stamping the pattern a little, and drawing in shadows on the side of the radiator. I think this photo could’ve been better if I had better lighting in the moment

Sophia T - Radical

This image was a part of my second series, and it is titled “Radical.” I made the outfit my model was wearing, and shot pictures of her in the studio in several different poses. I then picked out my favorite images, edited them individually, and compiled them in Photoshop. I also added a pixelated version of each image behind the original. I then created the background by painting it with similar colors shown in the outfit, and smudging it using the smudge tool. Overall, I am happy with how this composite shot turned out but I would also like to play around with the placement of the images and see if I can come up with something that flows a little better.

Chai C - IKWtCBS

The title of this image is IKWtCBS, after the title of the pictured novel by Maya Angelou, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. This is a piece that I am working on for my third sustained investigation. Two images are overlayed in this piece: a picture of my copy of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and a photograph of a crow I took on my phone at Hoover High School. I blended the images with an inverted blending tool in Photoshop. I like the concept I gauged with this piece, but I think there is more I could’ve done to tell a story with this image.

Dylan T- Sakura Leaves

I call this one "Sakura Leaves" because I made them look like sakura leaves. I took it either in my backyard or in the preserve. I kinda can't tell where the original is from because the file is gone. I took it with my Canon Rebel t7 and as you can see I changed the colors and messed with the vibrance and saturation really the majority i edited from the camera raw filter thing. I feel like something could make it better but I don't really have anything in mind but i'm open to suggestions.

Emma B- Fall Leaves

This photo was taken on October 18th 2023. It was taken under a bridge on a trail in Ross Bridge. I took this photo with my iPhone 11 Pro Max in portrait mode. I edited this image by importing it onto photoshop then using the select tool I selected numerous leaves. After selecting the leaves I went to edit then the color option and changed the color of the leaves. Lastly I added a Nik Collection filter to it. It could be better if the editing wasnt so choppy.

Brandon B- Walls

I titled this image “Walls” as the image is the same wall duplicated for a mirror effect.  This was taken in my backyard of the back wall of my house.  This photo was taken on October 30th 2023 around 5:30 PM, and was taken as part of my Sustained Investigation.  This was taken with my iPhone 13 Pro.  I edited this by duplicating the image and flipping the duplicate.  I then choose two different hues for each duplicate.  I then used the mask tool on the duplicate to create the alley effect.  Finally, I used a black soft brush tool to create the dark effect down the alley.  If I spent more time getting the shot and editing I think it would look better.

Nathan E- Untitled

I took this in the back room with a glass ball on top of the red bottle and played with color manipulation to get this cool color effect/pic. Really proud how it looks.

Mia N - Duckys

I took this picture at Aldrdge Gardens in Hoover a few weeks ago. I took this photo with my Nikon Z-50. I edited it with the camera raw filter an bumped up all the colors and made it more vibrant. I think that the angles could be a little better off if I had used a lens that got a closer shot.

Emily K - Colorful Chair

This image is called Colorful Chair because that is what it is and it was taken downtown on October 28, 2023 with my Canon t7. I adjusted some of the levels and played with the camera raw filters. I think it could be better if I played with more creative ideas and did some complex editing. Overall, this day was fun and I like the color of the chair and the window behind it.

Caroline M- Kirkland

The title of this image is Kirkland. I took this image in Calera on October 10th. I took this photo with my Nikon D3300.

Sophia T - Funk

The title of this image is “Funk.” I took pictures of my beautiful friend, Olivia in the studio wearing an outfit I made. I then painted the background in photoshop and smudged it to give it a swirly effect. I made another version of this image where I added several images of my model which I like better. Overall, I am pleased with this image but if I had to change anything, I would make her brighter.

Jade S- Cotton Land

The title of this photo is Cotton Land. This is a photo of a cotton field that I took in Clanton. It was taken on October 7th with an iPhone 11 Pro Max. I edited and cropped with Photoshop. I also added a filter and brought up the saturation since it seemed dull. The photo would have been way better if I had taken the time to get out the car and get a better shot.

Evan S- Dreary

This image was taken in February in Birmingham. It was taken with a Nikon D3000. I bumped up it's clarity, lowered it's contrast, and replaced the sky. I think the color scheme is a bit odd, and it could be a bit more clear.

Aidan P- Loneliness

This image shows the person’s loneliness by the black and white, the way he is sitting, and the way he is dressed. It gives a more sad feeling but still detailed. The playground also gives a creepy feeling while in general still providing a good background. I used my Dad for the posing a during the first series assignment. I started with the black and white filter. I don’t remember which one but I made sure there was still detailed. After that I went to the camera raw filter and changed many things, even if they were small but if you had the original you would see the increase in deail. Last thing I did was add a slight blue tint. If there was one thing I would change it would be some small details of his pose.

Wendy S- Outside My House

I took this photo outside of my house a couple of weeks ago. I edited by defining the color, changing the lighting, and making her eye color pop out more. It could be better lighting but overall the photo is really nice.

Michelle R- Wave of Feelings

I named this image “Wave of Feelings”. I took this picture at the beach about 3 weeks ago. I took it on my iPhone late at night. I changed the light tone from the hotel and faded into other colors. I darkened the building so it seemed like it was just floating by itself. I would make it better by retaking the photo and having a better focus on it.

Dylan T- Forest Portal

I called this one forest portal because of the portal like rock structure I found in the preserve. I took it maybe 2 months ago with my canon rebel t7 i just put the raw image I didn't edit it at all so im open to suggestions

Mia N - Fly

I took this picture about a week ago at the Aldridge Gardens. I photographed this with my nikon z-50. I used photoshop and the camera raw filter to change the lighting and the hues of the water. I hink that the image could be better by being a little clearer.

Marcie M - Sunny Windowsill

This image was taken in my boyfriend’s bedroom with my iPhone XR. I added a slight filter to make it look even sunnier, because the iPhone camera didn’t quite do it justice. I only wish the window didn’t have a screen and a lower angle could’ve made it better.

Maci J- Soaring

The title of this image is Soaring. It's a composite image, but both images were taken in an area near my house in September with my Canon Camera. The first image was a group of ducks who were swimming in the lake with the foliage around the frame. The second image was of the geese who were flying in formation. I used the remove tool to get rid of the ducks and insert the geese. I made the image black and white just so it would look more cohesive and surreal. I think if I could change it I would’ve made the geese larger but I like it for the most part. It was apart of my first investigation and I’m a fan of it but I don’t think it's the direction I will be going in the future.

Nikolaus H- Fuzzy Transmissions

The name of this photo is fuzzy transmissions. It was taken in my backyard a couple weeks ago using my Pentax k1000 and black and white film. To edit this photo, I increased the contrast and sharpened it a bit to remove some of the blur. I think this photo could’ve been better if the depth of field was closer to what it should be and the lighting a bit better.

Vincent S- A Little Happier

This was a simple portrait photo I took with a Canon T7 camera a couple of weeks ago. The photo was heavily edited to directly resemble the cover art of the game “Milk Outside A Bag of Milk Outside a bag of Milk”. The cover art was my own redraw using a drawing tablet and photoshop pens.

Helen S- No Strings Attached

I titled this image “No Strings Attached”. I took this picture in my brother's room about 3 weeks ago. I took this picture with my Sony A6500 with a portrait lens. I edited the hand a bit because my brother had poison ivy so I smoothed the skin some. I also used the burn tool to add a bit more definition. I think the way it could have been better is if the angles of the string were different and if the background curtain was a bit more smooth. Also I think that if the focus was more on the hand and not the stings it would have looked better. Overall I’m proud of this image.

Chai C- The Sun

The title of this image is The Sun because that’s exactly what this is a photograph of. The photo was taken on Labor Day weekend in Dadeville, Alabama. The sky was fairly cloudy, but the sun could be seen shining through a small hole in the clouds. The photo was taken with a Canon camera and a UV filter lens to block out some of the light. I edited the image to make the Sun a bit more pronounced, as the unedited image was a lot less clear. I also made the image a lot darker to really highlight the contrast between the Sun and the rest of the sky. This effect does add a lot of negative space to the image, which I don’t really like.

Kenn J- Medusa Dog

The title is Medusa Dog. This was taken in the backyard of my house and it was taken in the morning when the sun was rising. This was taken with my iphone. I just adjusted the hue and saturation with each color separately then I used AI Generation to fill the bottom to finish the foot of the statue to then go in and edit more. I really like the color and contrast of the different colors there is nothing I would personally change to it.

Paris C- Freeway

I named this image Freeway because obviously of where and what it was taken. I really like this photo and I really think I did a good job editing it.

Nathan E- Hop Hop

I took this when I went on a walk with my class in eco. I zoomed in, stepped back, and snapped the pic you see with a NIK Collection filter on it.

Emma B- Cookout Emily

This image was taken behind the school where the sculpture room is and was taken on September 27 2023. This photo was taken with my iPhone 11 Pro Max with a fisheye lens attached on the camera. I edited this image with a filter from the app PREQUEL the adjusted the brightness and saturation. It could be better if there was more black around the circle area to make it a perfect circle. But I love this image and Emily was an amazing model.

Alex B H - Trust Flowing Water

I amend this image “Trust Flowing Water” because often you trust moving water because it is seen as safer. I took this image at a creek while going to take photos of my friend. It was taken on October 9th 2023. I took this image with my iPhone 13, I used the camera raw filter to edit the image. I also mildly cropped the image. I wish i would have had space on my good camera to take a photo on the better quality.

Dori H- Jellyfish Dreams

The title of this image is Jellyfish Dreams. It is a composite photo with two separate images one being the jellyfish and the other being the subject who’s lying down. I took the jellyfish photo at the Georgia Aquarium and the other photo I took in the studio. I wanted this image to look like a girl was dreaming of jellyfish and the main goal was to make it look somewhat dreamy and magical. To edit this photo, I adjusted the exposure and brought up the highlights. I then added all the jellyfish and color-corrected them to be all the same color. After that, I added the glow around the jellyfish and on the subject. I think this image would be better if there wasn't so much empty space around the jellyfish. I was hoping that later on I could go back and add some light rays, like the ones that you would typically see underwater. Although I like the image being more on the darker side so it can add more contrast and highlight the glow of the jellyfish, the photo might be a little too dim. Overall this was a really fun image to edit and I can’t wait to do more composites in the future.

Brandon B- Dual Doors

This photo is titled “Dual Doors” due to the two doors depicted in the image. Which is also representing two different choices.  This was taken on November 17th, 2022 on a field trip.  This was a building in an alley way which I mirrored to create the dual effect.  It was taken with my iPhone 13 Pro.  I edited this by changing the hue and saturation, using the mask brush to create the dual effect, and used a rain overlay for a particles effect at the top.  Some smaller masking was done in the image to create extra detail.  This could be better if I spent more time being precise on the masking.

Steven L - Generations

I took this photo with a Canon EOS Rebel, on September 30, 2023. It’s a photo of my grandma’s and my little cousin’s hands. I edited by increasing the brightness and the vibrance of the picture, I cropped it a little, and also I applied a filter to show as many details as possible in my hands. I think It looks good, but I still think it could look better If I edited a little more.

Monday, October 23, 2023

Emily K- Flag

This image is called “Flag” because that is what it is and it was taken at my lake house on October 7, 2023 with my Canon t7. The only editing I did was deepening the contrast and colors. I think it could be better if I was able to capture the flag when it was more straightened out because although currently it shows movement, I feel like it would be cool if it was frozen in air. I like the lighting a lot and overall, it was fun to take this picture.
