Merit O-Ghost Town

The name of this picture is “Ghost Town”. I took this picture downtown on August 15, 2020 when I was walking around with my dad and brother. I took the picture with my canon rebel T5. I edited the picture by taking the saturation and vibrance down, then I took the exposure down and went up on the contrast. I made the shadows a lot brighter and showed a lot more texture and clarity in it. I then took the vignette down to make it darker around the edges. I like how the picture came out but I think I could probably lighten it up around the trees and cars to make t better.

Julien F - Small Trees

I called this image Small Trees because I was trying to make the clovers look like towering trees. If I could redo this image I would use my camera instead. I had to use my phone since my camera had died while on the hike. I would also try to get a better angle from under the clover to get a better illusion that they are way higher.

Bryson S - Standalone

I took this picture from a worm’s eye perspective of a tree at Moss Rock. In editing, I used the mask tool to remove the detail of the clouds from the background, and messed with the color and levels. I really like the effect the hue shift and high contrast adds, almost an uneasy alone feeling. Overall, I’m proud of how this came out.

Katie H - Divide

The title of my selected image is “Divide”. It was taken this past summer at a tennis court. It was taken with a nikon camera. I edited it by duplicating the image and adding shadows off the edges of them. It could be better if the coloring of the sky was more blue.

Jack J. - Quote

My image is called “Quote” and it was taken last year for the still life project. It was taken with my Rebel T3 in my guest bedroom with my makeshift studio. I edited this with the Nik collection and added quotes from songs in the album. I could have cropped the image better and if I had gone in knowing what I would do I could have planned ahead better. Overall I think if I redid this image this year I could make it more aesthetically pleasing.

Emaleigh S- Historic Downtowns

This image was named Historic Downtowns, it was taken in September in Wetumpka, Alabama. I took this photo with my grandmother’s Nikon D7200. I edited it by combining two photos from the city and adding a purple tint so their colors would match. Added sharpness and darkened the photo as well. I believe the image would be better if I blended the photo with the trees a little better than I did.

Clay K- Summer Watch

This is a picture I took last year and edited it over the summer when I got a new computer. The picture is of my street and a decent looking watch I bought. I edited it with the color efex found in the nik collection. I would like to make the picture to look much more professional all around.

Alana W- Caroline

The title of this image is Caroline, it was taken at the Oak Mountain State Park cabins on December 29, 2020. It was taken with my iPhone 11 and I edited this image by adding a bit of exposure, contrast, brightness, adding a black point, saturation, and adjusting the vibrance a bit. I also added a bit of warmth, tint, sharpness, and definition. I am satisfied with the image because the person in the picture was unintentionally shot which worked out perfectly in the image with no blur, and I would do minimal changes to the image.

Hayden M - In The Lights

This image is called “In The Lights”. This was taken last year at one of my lacrosse practices of my friend Jackson. I took this with my Sony a7iii with the kit lens I had at the time. I believe it was taken at 28mm. I edited it by desaturating some colors, darkening the background, and illuminating him more to make him stand out completely. This was my first time doing anything like this so I wish that I could've shown more movement in the photo rather than just a pose, such as blur, etc. Other than that, this is one of my favorite images and also because it’s something other than cars, which I usually focus on.

Mitchell C - Davis

The name of this image is Davis, named after my brother. I forgot the reason I took this picture, but I decided to include it in the photo blog because I really like this image and I rarely take any pictures of him. I took it in my backyard around midday. I edited mostly in photoshop. I converted it into a black and white, increased the contrast and brightness, increased the shadows and eventually ended up with this. I also really like the composition. I think the empty space at the top really adds to the tone of the image. I took this with my Canon 6D body and 85mm f/1.8. I was trying to experiment with lighting - specifically direct light - and I thought I did a good job. We took a ton of shots, and in all of them he was squinting even more than he was here. So, if it is possible, I would like to get the same image without him squinting, but otherwise, I really liked the way the image turned out.

Ainsley M- Honey

This image is titled ‘Honey’ because that is partly the subject of the image. This image was taken back at the beginning of December at my house and taken with a Nikon d3500. I originally started taking these pictures to experiment with my new 35mm f.14 lens, and I’m really happy with how the images turned out! We used honey as a way to reflect light, and I edited them by adding a black and white filter and then adjusting the light and contrast. Then I went in and sharpened different sections as well as used the dodge and burn tool in certain areas. I think I could make it better by adjusting the focus of the camera on certain parts of her face, but overall I’m really happy with how it turned out!

Evelyn C - Center Plant

The name of my image is Center Plant and it was taken on a trial over at Helena when I went on a walk with friends a while back. I took this picture with my Canon Rebel T6 camera. My main edits were the Nik filters of Viveza and Analog Efex Pro. I enhanced the colors, a cool filter, and soft texture of the plant. I also decided to darken the center of the plant to add contrast to the outer-brighter leaves of the plant. I believe this picture would have been better if it was focused more on the center. As well as not having the orange plastic net behind it. Besides that I am content with how this picture came out.

Sasha C - The Sun

The Sun, This Picture was taken in Florida at the beach, and it was captured during the evening.  It was taken with my iPhone XR. I played with Hue/Saturation and brightness. I feel this picture would be better if there was more color, or black and white.

Hannah R- Taylor

I took this photo of my niece, Taylor. I set up the background by adding flowers and a sheet. I edited it by adjusting the lighting and highlighting certain areas. I increased the vibrance and contrast to brighten it up. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

David J- Album 16x8 SI3

This Image is a collage of around 61 images. The background is 53 pictures I took of myself jumping into a pool. I used the polygonal lasso tool to cut myself out of each, merged them into one image, applied halftone and edited it all in nik collection. The images of people are my bandmates and I who I just took pictures of and used polygonal lasso again.  The sheep and words were cut from actual magazines and the letters were put on a greenscreen and cut and put on here. I put drop shadow on everything in the foreground.

Jerusha K- Still Life

I took this picture in the studio with Mr. Rigsby’s camera. I edited this photo by erasing so many impurities and I put three different ways to darken different parts of the photo. Increased the shapes of the whole photo. Something I would change though is making the edges of the hat to be more natural and not looking obviously cropped

Merit O- Come for a Ride

The name of this image is “Come for a Ride”. I took the picture Sep 4 in a parking lot when I was with some friends. I took the picture with my canon rebel T5. I edited the picture but making it saturated and then I put a color filter on it. I really like this picture over all, I don’t know what I would do to make it better.
