Dylan T- Circles

I call this photo circles pretty basic i know but i took it outside the super target up the road with my Canon Rebel t7 I think around September for our circles project i really have no clue. I really didnt do much but outline the circle and grayscale everything else I think I could've taken it a bit to the left so its straightened and maybe the stopsign would be out of the way but overall I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out I'm open to suggestions though.

Michelle R- Bama

I titled this image Bama. It was taken 1-23-24. It was taken with my canon camera. I took it in downtown Birmingham at night. I lightened the colors to bounce from the wall to be more visible. I lowered the opacity to make it seem as it was fading in with the road and background. I believe the background could have been a little lighter to also bring it out and show it more.

Evan S- Unknown Destination

This photo is called “Unknown Destination”. It was taken a few months ago at Railroad Park.It was taken with a NIKON d300, and was edited with Camera Raw Filter, Nik Analog Fx, Nik Color Fx, and other miscellaneous tools. I think the focus could have been better.

Aidan P- Cassette Recorder

This image is titled “Cassette Recorder” and was taken on 1/6/24 in the abandoned Montgomery Mall. I used my Canon T7 Rebel camera and out of all of the images from the mall this one was the best. I started with a dark filter from the Nik Collection with some changes to it to give it some more detail and color. After that I went to the Camera Raw filter to change some smaller things such as saturation, brightness, and grain, ect. Last thing I did was darken some specific parts of the image because the light was messing up the look with some parts of the image. I do wish a few parts of the image were a little more clear but overall I like the image.

Marcie M - Ephemeral

I took this image in my backyard one foggy morning. It was way earlier than I usually would wake up, so as much as I hate waking up early, the quaint and hazy weather made it worth it. I took this photo with a Nikon D7000. I edited it to give it a color to make it look a little more ethereal and calming with an air of gloominess.

Helen S- Looking Glass

I titled my image “Looking Glass”. I took this image at my house around christmas time. I took this image with my Sony A6500 camera with a portrait lens. I think it could be better if I got more of the glass in the image. I also wish the image had more contrast to it.

Maci J- Rose Bud

The title of this image is Rose Bud. I took this photo in my backyard sometime in January. All I really did to edit it was use the Camera raw filter to make the details stand out more and cropped on the left side to make the images more even. This photo is very simple as it is so there’s only so much editing I could do to it. It’s not very interesting, it’s just a flower and the quality could probably be better.

Paris C- Lion

I named this image Lion obviously because of the lion. It was taken last year at the zoo it was taken with my phone since I didn’t have my camera. I edited this image by cropping it, adding some contrast, making the shadows be more visible, and making it black and white. It could be better with the crop part but it still looks nice.

Alex BH- Trees Out of the Window

I named this image, Trees out of the window, it was taken through my open bedroom window on September 30th, 2023. I took this image with my Canon EOS Rebel T3. I used photoshop to color correct, crop, and sharpen the images. If it were taken on my roof and a little more steady I would like it more.

Dori H - Freshwater Reflection.

This image is called Freshwater Reflection.  I took a macro shot of my friend’s light blue eyes and used that as the base image. I used an image of a freshwater betta I took at the Georgia Aquarium to screen and overlay on top.
This image is definitely one of the weaker ones I’ve made. I’ve chosen to post this on the blog to see if there are any suggestions to help fix it.  Initially, I wanted to make half of the eye flow into its back fin. However, it didn’t look how I envisioned it and you couldn’t tell what the fin was. So I decided to add the whole fish along with a few more swimming around it. I also didn’t like the repetition of the same fish.

I think I can create something really cool with this image so I cannot wait to attempt different approaches.

Nikolaus H- Insight

The name of this photo is Insight. It was taken with my Pentax k1000 using 100 ISO black and white film. I took it somewhere in the courtyard during lunch. In order to edit this photo, I adjusted the light levels, then used the HDR toning tool, finishing with the camera raw filter.

Steven L - Shining

I called this image “Shining” and it was taken with a Canon T7. All the images of the hands were taken in the studio, and I edited by blending them together in a solid black layer. I added some filters, increased the brightness and vibrance, and I added another layer of an image of stars, and blended it to the hands. I think it could be better If I sharpen the edges of the hand a little bit, maybe change the positions of the hands too, or try adding a different filter, but I still like how it looks.

Ken J- Dark Rosemary

This is a Composite image, the first and second image were taken in my backyard whilst the third image was taken in the Photography Studio Room. The first and second were taken with my phone and the third was with a Canon Digital Camera. I edited each layer separately by adjusting the colors and saturation on each ;eve; tp change a;; brightness and contrast for each image then I brought it together made a new player and blended the finished piece together to make the final image. I think my only remarks about it is that it's not so dark and more color; I very much enjoy the edgy dark based tone the image holds and is very interesting to look at especially if you look at the small details.

Emily K- Barn

This image is titled “Barn” and it was taken near my lake house on January 27, 2024 with my Canon t7. This was a HDR composite image and te only editing I have done (so far) is merging them with Photomatrix and added some filters. I am definitely going to continue editing it and messing around with the contrast and colors. I really like how merging them allowed you to see all of the details on the outside and inside of the barn. Overall, taking this picture was a very fun experience and I learned a lot from the HDR assignment!

Nathan E- Mind Warped

This is MIND WARPED. This is a photo I was at first just playing with and then BOOM I made this really cool creative pic. That i love so very much.

Emma B- Bite-sized

So this image was edited for my composite assignment which composite photography is the use or combination of two or more different images to create a new one. For this assignment, I used three different images. The background is an image I took quite some time ago in Virginia. The images of Emily and Nathan were both taken in the studio at school on January 22, 2024. I took all of these images with my iPhone 11 Pro Max ones of Emily and Nathan were put on portrait mode. The editing process of this composite took so long (sorry for it being turned in so late). First, I did the auto-edit, which does the contrast, exposure, saturation, etc, for the image of Emily and Nathan. Next, I took the background image and imported it into Photoshop. After that, I took the image of Emily and removed the background, cropped it, and made it fit with the background. Now for the image of Nathan, I removed the background, shrunk him down, and erased part of the shirt so it looks like Emily is holding him. Finally, I sent the image to myself on my

Chai C- Chocolate Factory

This image is called Chocolate Factory and is based on the inspiration of Roald Dahl’s famous novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Specifically, this image reflects the likeness of Willy Wonka, a character from this novel. I took this image with my phone a few months ago and edited it with Adobe Photoshop. I edited the colors and the lighting to emphasize the image's subject. I wanted to highlight the image’s colors and the deep contrast between the dark background and the illuminated portrait. I really like the shaky effect I created with the camera, and I look forward to building off this style.

Brandon B- Glitched

This image is called “Glitched”, and was taken in February of 2023.  This was taken with my iPhone 13 Pro on Brocks Gap Parkway.  The editing consisted of two duplicates offset with different hues, which I actually messed up on at first.  But I ended up putting a filter on it and it presented an interesting look.   For some finishing touches I used the curves adjustment to change lighting throughout the image.  This could be better if I spent more time on it.  But for something that was originally a mistake I think it came out with a unique look.

Kay A- Right Were You Left Me

The selected title of this image is right where you left me, this was taken at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens on September 10, 2023, with my Canon Rebel EOS, To edit the picture I added a black and white layer after I added another layer with the photographed leaves and added color back to them, finally I added the wind lines and blended them using the blur tool and also using the healing brush to make them go around her properly. I think it would be better if I added more leaves.

Aidan P- Abandoned

This image is called Abandoned and was taken October 22, 2023 at Carraway Hospital. I took it with my Canon Rebel T7 camera. I used a filter from the Nik Collection at fist and after that I went to more specific things such as color. I brought out more color up top while at the bottom I added a blue tint for a creepier feeling. I used the Camera Raw Filter for the smaller but still important changes. I would probably have made the image more specific on one thing if I could retake it but I still like that it shows what it needs to. Even if the image isn’t the best I have to say it was still fun to go down there and take it.

Wendy S- Bogey

The title of this photo is “Bogey” Bogey is the little dog. I took this shot at a friend's house and it was taken during the winter break. I edited it by adjusting the highlights, lighting, color, etc.
