Linley W- Guitar Girl

The title of my picture is “Guitar Girl.” I took this picture last semester, but I recently edited it last week. I took this picture with my Nikon camera. I edited this picture by cropping in heavily, adding a warming filter over it, and stylizing the picture like an oil painting in order to make it softer. I also sharpened it as well. This picture could be better if the foot was posed differently. However, I do like this picture a lot.

Allie S- Alien

The title of my image is Alien. It was taken in the studio at Hoover High School. It was taken on February 15, 2023. It was taken with a Canon Rebel T3. I edited it by combining two images and adding NIK collection filters to it. I added a grain filter as well. I think I could have made the colors pop a little more.

Aiden S- Joker

This was taken with my Canon T7 Rebel and was taken at my work. My friend just showed up with joker makeup on and I just had to take some photos with him. I love this pose he makes and I love how the makeup is in detail in the photo. Only thing that would make it better is the clarity and if it was more in frame.

Brandon B- Midnight Aura

The photo I choose to feature from this assignment is called “Midnight Aura”.  I had actually taken this photo on a whim when waiting for a pizza to be ready at Brixx.  I had pressed my phone up against the car window to have a steady shot for the three exposures.  This photo was taken with my iPhone 13 Pro.  I used Photomatix to get the HDR combination, and then plugged it into photoshop with the midnight Nik collection filter for a midnight effect.  I then used the stamp tool to take out some glare.  Finally, I cropped a flag out of the image that had come out weird as it blew in three different directions when taking the different shots.  I felt it could be better without the light behind the tree.  Be sure to comment on my image!

Maddie T-Big Thief

This is a photo of Adrianne Lenker from Big Thief playing at Iron City on Feb 18th 2023. I was also on the media team for this show. It was edited in lightroom.

Ayla S- Glitch

This image is titled “Glitch.” This photograph was taken in my house in January. This photo was taken with a Canon Rebel T6 camera. To edit this photo, I used a black and white filter in Photomatix. It could be better if it had a deeper meaning behind the glitched screen.

Alex B- Water Against The Rocks

I titled this Water Against The Rocks, This image wa taken on September 30th 2022 while taking photos for the reflections assignment. I took this image at the Cahaba river behind the school. I took this with my Canon Reble T7. I used raw filter to edit and sharpened the image, while cropping it just a bit. I actually really like this image and i dont think that it could be better. ( plz give opinions of how you think it could be better :D )

Joseph R- Wind

This photo was taken in a swamp in Montevallo with a Panasonic Lumix. I sharpened the boardwalk since it was a little blurry, and adjusted the colors and contrast to make everything look less flat. I wish the camera shot higher resolution photos, but overall I like it.

Aidan P- In The Alley

This image was for the HDR assignment and was taken in downtown Birmingham. I took this  next to an old building in the alley and I think it was a pretty good angle. When I combined the images it didn’t look the best but once I added the filter it made it a lot better. The filter was called creative and I have used it more than once but once I added it a lot more detail was shown. I did add some other little changes like getting rid of some of the saturation of the red. I also gave it a darker more rainy day look. Overall I really liked this image and is one of my favorites bu as usual that’s just my opinion.

Ani W- Duplicated

I titled this image Duplicated since I took a “selfie” of myself and made a copy of my face. I took this picture a week ago with my iphone 12 mini. I edited the image by cropping my face and duplicating it on a plain black background, then overlaid an image of cracked glass over it. Then I applied a filter over the flatten images so it seemed old and tarnished. I then made some minor adjustments such as fixing the brightness, saturation, and colors (such as chaining my eye color from brown to hazel).

Bess H - Help

I took this photo with my Canon 4000D about 2 months ago. It is one of my photos that I am using for my sustained investigation. I title this image “Help” because that is what the pills spell out. I added a nik collection filter and played around with the levels and brightness. I also did some things with the highlights and shadows. I wish that I would have taken the photo from a different angle.

Carol A- Chasing Secrets

The title of this image is Chasing Dreams, this picture was taken at the Birmingham Botanical Garden with my Canon Rebel EOS. I edited the photo by applying the raw camera filter and messed with the settings by increasing the texture along with the shadows and increasing the clarification. I think it could have been better if I would have toned the brightness down a little bit.

CAROLINE M- Monkey

This photo is titled Monkey, it was taken January 29, 2023 at the Birmingham Zoo. It was taken with a Nikon D3300. When I went to the zoo I was taking pictures for my HDR assignment and I accidentally left my camera on -2.0 exposure so the photo was too dark and you couldn't really see the monkey so I had to turn up the brightness really high and I liked how it turned out but I do wish it was a better quality and that I could make it brighter without it turning a purplish hue.

Brandon B- Burrow

I chose to title this image “Burrow” as that is the jersey I took a picture of, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals.  This is a jersey I have had for about a year and thought it would make a good photo for the HDR assignment on January 29, 2023.  And the photo was taken with my iPhone 13 Pro.  I attempted my best to get as much of the stitching detail as I could while still showing off the name plate.  First I used Photo Matix to layer the three exposures of this image and then used the soft preset.  Finally, I ran the photo through photoshop for some basic improvements and more detail and sharpening.  The photo could be better if I spent more time on it.  At the end I felt it came out pretty good and had a good representation of the on-field jersey pictures.

Courtni D- Bulb of Light

This photo was taken January 29 in my mother’s bathroom. It was taken with my Canon EOS. I did not edit this photo because I was just trying to choose a photo for the blog but I also like it how it is. It could be better if I brightened it a bit or just tried to do something with it.

Martha Claire D- God of the Sea

The title of this image is “God of the Sea”. It was taken in mid january at Moss Rock. It was taken with my mirrorless Panasonic camera. I edited the image by playing with the blues and greens in the photo and by brightening his face. This photoshoot was for my sustained investigation where I was portraying the Greek God of the Sea, Poseidon. I think it would have been better if there was more visual interest to the photo.

Caeden H- Black and White Beauty

This image is entitled “Black and White Beauty”, it was taken in the studio a few weeks ago. I took this picture with a Canon Rebel XSI. To edit this I used photoshop, I touched up some blemishes and stray hairs, played with the curves, added a black and white filter, and used the dodge and burn tool to add more detail. I think this image could be better if more of her face was in the light. I wanted there to be some shadows, but I worry that her face is overtaken by shadows.

Drew B- Bursting Through Flames

This image is called Bursting Through Flames. I took this photo with my Nikon D5600 at the Birmingham Zoo on the zoo light safari.

Shae M- Anxiety Inside

The title of my image is “Anxiety Inside”. I took this photo back in September for one of our first assignments, and I took it here in the studio. I took the word photo on Halloween on the benches in the courtyard. I took it with my Nikon D3500. I edited it by merging the images together, and bringing up the brightness and contrast. I also sharpened it a bit and played around with some filters. It could be better if the opacity was slightly different and if it was overall just clearer.

Linley W- Old Friend

I took this picture a couple of weeks ago when I and an old friend went to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens to go get some pictures. This picture was taken on my Nikon camera right before sunset. The model is actually leaning against the front entrance sign right around sunset, which was why the picture is very warm. The shadows on the wall are actually from nearby trees. I really love her pose and how it seems she is looking off into the distance. It gives a unique artistic vibe to the picture. I do wish that some of the highlights were not as sharp though. Overall, I really like this picture and it’s one of my

Aiden S - Evanne

I called this image “Evanne” because it's an image of my friend Evanne. I took this photo with my Canon Rebel T7. I adjusted the lighting and touched up on her skin so she  can glow in a way. It was taken downtown at railroad park. I think if I got some of the background it would be better.

Paris C- Ocean

I named this image Ocean because of the ocean of course it's the main character. I really like how I edited this picture the more I look at it the more it gives me reality cartoon vibes. It was taken in gulf shores during winter break. I made everything have more detail then how it did before. It's a cool picture in my opinion but not my absolute best.

Nora G- Flower After Rain

This was outside of my house in a bush and the rain was still on the flower and I thought it was really pretty. I was also darker outside so the lighting wasn't the best but I really like the water droplet on the pedals. This was taken with my camera and I edited only but lighting a little bit.

Aidan P- Drum

I named this picture Drum just because that’s what it is and it’s simple. The picture was taken in my garage of a drum with a pad on it to reduce the noise along with the drumsticks on top. I used my iphone for this along with a tripod to keep it still. I used this for the HDR assignment so the first thing I did was combine the three images. Next I used a filter from the real estate section and changed the highlights, shadows, local contrast, saturation, and brightness, and temperature. I also did a few tweaks in photoshop but not much. The main thing that bugs me is the top corners and that you can kind of see past the drum but anyway I cropped it seemed to make it too small. So I probably should have taken the picture at better angle.

Betsey S - Bright Bottles

The title of this image is bright bottles because it is an image of bottles with light painting. It was taken for the light painting assignment in the photography lab. It was taken with one of Mr. Rigsby cameras. I didn't really edit it. I feel like I could have brought out some brightness and contrast more.

Ayla S - Composite

This image is titled, “Composite.” This photo was taken in my backyard in November. I took this photo with my Canon Rebel T6. To edit this photo, I combined multiple photos, added colored layers, and blended shapes into the photograph. I think it could be better if the shapes were more subtle.

Madison R - Rooster

This photo was taken in Key West last summer. This photo was taken with my Nikon D3400 camera. I edited it by bringing up the contrast and saturation and lowering the highlights. I also added a vignette to draw focus to the subject. I think if I cropped in a little more this image could be better!

Ani W- Cracked

I tilted this image Cracked since I overlayed an image of broken glass over the original photo I took. I took this picture of a little mail hole where you receive your mail at the post office. I took this photo with my iphone 12 mini (since I did not have my camera with me) on January 26, 2023. I edited the image by overlaying twigs and broken glass over the first image, and added a black and white filter. I also accentuated some of the shadows and added a vignette filter as well, making the tunnel seem longer and brighter at the end. I wish I could have had more time to take more photos that day with my Canon camera, but I think the photo turned out alright.

Allie S- Mask

The title of my image is mask. It was taken January 10th 2023 in the studio. It was taken with a Canon Rebel T7. I edited it by playing with the levels. I also added another image to the original and masked it. I wish I would have edited the “mask” a little better but overall I’m happy with the image.
