I took this photo on my back patio close to sunset. It was cloudy outside which gives the pictures the darker tones. it was taken with a Nikon D50. I simply added 5 separate layers to the original image of the smoke bomb and on each layer painted the smoke with a different color. To make the colors not so dominant, I used the blending mode “color” and lowered the opacity and fill with each color. to erase the edges, i lowered the opacity and fill of the eraser. Lastly, i selected all 5 layers and merged them so they would blend together then i added brightness and contrast. I think it could be better if i had more smoke in the picture.

This picture is AH-MAZING! I have always wondered how they made the smoke rainbow colors in different pictures and you have executed it perfectly in this picture! I love this so much!

i like this picture because the smoke looks like a rainbow. It reminds me of a genie's lamp sort of, with the whole smoke coming out of the object idea. I like the table you set it on because it has detail but its quite simple as well, so it doesn't ruin the subject. Great job!

This picture is totally remarkable.If it weren't for you to mention you used 5 separate layers for the smoke; I've would have thought it was a whole picture and not several layers. I also, like how you perfectly blended the different smoke layers making it look like all that smoke truly is from that one shot. Also, the different smoke colors mixed in fit perfectly, cause the colors are pastels and go great together. Even on the glass the reflection fits and isn't sloppy from all. Great job!!

I really like the editing you did in this picture to achieve the colorful effect of the smoke – it really blends together well. It also looks nice with the non-busy background, as that helps to bring out the details of the smoke. In my opinion though, this picture would have been much better if it was taken as a vertical exposure, so that the top of the smoke column was part of the picture. But, even without, it’s a nice picture.
