John Michael A - Abandoned

The photo I selected is titled Abandoned. I took this photo during the Earth, Metal, Water Assignment. I shot it with my Canon T3i at about noon last weekend across the street from Sloss Furnace in downtown Birmingham. I was looking for metal objects to shoot and noticed an abandoned building across the street. The old wooden doors on the front of the building looked really cool, so I took a couple of pictures of them. I selected the best one of them and edited it slightly. I boosted the contrast and brightness and cropped in. I like this photo a lot.

I like how the focus is on the rotted doors and that they are still closed, it makes it a mystery to wonder what’s behind it and why it is locked away. I think the centering of the photo really compliments it, how the doors are in the middle and you can see a little bit of graffiti on the sides. I like the creepiness of the photo because it is mysterious and the colors all blend together really well.
