I merged a picture of a river and school. I used a gradient map, brightness/contrast layer, and also a blank layer to lighten the center of the image and darken the borders.

This picture really stood out tome because of the angle the picture was taken. I really like how its the brightest at your subject and the edges of the picture start to fade to a darker color.
